As Carson Daly would say, “THAT, was amazing…….. Wow”
Coming in to the finale of NBC’s new show, The Voice, most would say that the favorite was Team Blake’s Dia Frampton. Dia became a frontrunner after her unique performance of Kanye West’s “Heartless,” and kept her momentum going with REM’s “Losing my Religion” in the semifinals. She beat out fellow teammate Xenia by a slim margin and moved into the finals.
In the finals, Dia first performed a duet of “Won’t Back Down” with her coach, Blake Shelton. Then, she performed her original song, “Inventing Shadows,” which reached No. 1 on iTunes.
Javier Colon, the finalist from Team Adam, wowed America, and all for coaches, in his blind audition, where he performed “Time After Time.” Perhaps Javier’s best performance (and my favorite performance of anyone’s, all season) was of Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel.” This performance pushed him into the semifinals, where he sang “Fix You” (And took off his hat for the first time) He beat out teammate Casey Weston in a landslide (no pun intended) and moved into the finals. (BTW Jeff Jenkins should’ve been in the semifinals, IMO)
Anyway, Javier sang his original song, Stitch by Stitch, with his trademark acoustic guitar, and then performed “Man in the Mirror” with his coach, and Maroon 5’s lead singer, Adam Levine.
Now personally, I was a team Adam fan. My two favorites were Jeff and Javier, so once Jeff was eliminated, Javier was sort of my last hope.
After each of the four finalists performed duets with guest-celebs, it was time for the results.
Our host, Carson Daly, first explained that the two top vote getters were within two percent of each other. So, naturally, he revealed them: Dia and Javier.
BTW, congratulations to Beverly and Vicci too. Beverly’s performance of Thrill is Gone was stunning, as was her duet with her coach, Christina Aguilera, and Vicci was solid with “Dog Days are Over” and “Jolene,” even though she wasn’t one of my favorites.
Anyway, Carson then informed us of a fun fact: Javier’s “Stitch by Stitch” made it to #2 on iTunes. COOL Then he tells us that Dia’s “Inventing Shadows” was #1. UH OH
At this point, Dia was probably like, “OH YEAH SUCK IT JAVIER!!!” and Javier was probably like “OH CRAP” but what do I know.
And the winner is….. (In case you missed the title of this post)
JAVIER COLON!!!
Congratulations to Javier, Dia, Beverly, and Vicci, you will all have wonderful careers!!!
One last thing: Fifty points to anyone who knew Dia Frampton before the Voice.
